Stopped at the pub for lunch. Friendly, speedy service. Lots of menu options and our meals were fresh and delicious, No problem to accommodate my request for fish to be pan-fried instead of battered. We had a table on the deck gazing at the view and enjoying the great music. The pool tables, TAB facilities, and pokies were well set out inside so the pub still felt roomy and not at all cluttered. Everything was clean including the nicely decorated ladies. We were only passing through Opononi but this place was definitely a find.

This is a 3-star hotel so the rooms are small and the furniture somewhat mismatched but we really didn’t care! Everything (and it had everything we needed, including complimentary mints (!)) was extremely functional and clean. But it was the service that made this stay at an ancient hotel special. Simply lovely staff and very good food. The views are spectacular and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Are here today for lunch and loved it. The fabulous server at the bar - seemed like the manager - was absolutely top notch in her customer service and her ability in guiding her bar staff. She should be giving lessons to others in the service industry on how to get it right. Enjoyed a yummy margarita pizza, it arrived quickly. The setting overlooking the Hokianga Harbour is just magical. Thanks team at Opononi hotel for a great experience.

Accommodation & Food
Really loved our lunch here recently. In our group two people had burgers - the fish burger and the vegetarian burger both which were excellent. One of us had the Ika Mata which was just excellent - a well put together version of this dish. The staff were just excellent. Good selection of wines and beers.

Great food, great setting, looks newly renovated but at the same time an ‘old fashioned pub’. Pristine toilets and friendly staff ! Have been several times and always different but always good. Seems to be a favourite destination of tourists and locals alike. We just ate here, haven’t seen the rooms….

Oh my goodness, I wish I could leave a 10 star rating for this property. It might not be the fanciest (but is still very beautiful), but the level of hospitality is incredible, as are the view from the rooms. I booked accommodation for my 83 year old parents who were going on a nostalgic road trip, and the people working at the hotel have been so amazing.; they have gone so far and beyond in providing mum and dad with a a wonderful experience. Thank you so much!

Wonderful Stay
We only stayed one night but the rooms were lovely. We stayed in the main hotel and our room was at the front and overlooked the sea, marvellous view! We ate in the bar, food was good but service was slow however it didn't detract from a lovely evening. I would happily stay here again

Overnight Stay
Great traditional pub with cold beers on tap. Ordered beer battered fish and one serve was big enough to feed 2 people. Warning if driving to opononi fill your car up in larger towns prior to arrival as fuel is expensive. The pub is right on the water and opononi is a beautiful town.
